Jam experience

The pirate software is a week-long jam, so we took the time to turn it into a narrative game where the player must follow clues and investigate to survive the Eclipse.

We centered our plot around the Ritual, to ensure that the concept corresponded as closely as possible to the theme. Most of the items to be collected lead to other objectives, and that is how we established the storyline and game mechanics.

We have chosen to create the rooms of the manor with a distinct theme and lighting ambience. This way, players can easily find their way around and concentrate on their quest.

The game also uses a 2D-3D mix. As it's an enclosed space, we didn't have too many problems, and the sprites blend in quite well with the decor.

As a programmer, I had to deal with the constraint of the 3/4 view, especially with the walls in the foreground. So I created a transparency system when the player passes in front of them.

Other than that, the game's functionality is pretty basic, so I designed a very simple inventory and dialog system for the player's convenience. And I have concentrated on the plot, so that the adventure has as many finishing details as possible before the end of the jam.

I created the enemy ia with movement patterns. The player takes damage when he comes into contact with them. He can, however, press space to throw his book at their faces.
